Dilip versus the container ship

Created by Wendy 16 years ago
We were due to go to Lamma island for seafood and for those who know Dilip it will come as no surprise that we were late and missed the ferry. Dilip decides to go by sampan from Aberdeen... he persuades this lady to take us and to step on it. We are bobbing about on the sea with large ships all around us and it is hindering our progress. Dilip is not best pleased. At a certain moment the lady cuts the engine and Dilip is livid. She explains that there is a great big container ship passing and there is nothing she can do. It was a truly humbing experience to be on such a small boat next to such a huge giant as it passed. It wasn't moving fast enough for Dilip so he stood at the front of the boat waving his arms and shouting at it to get a move on. The woman pointed out that the ship couldn't see him. Dilips response was to light a cigarette and wave it so they would see the light and know to hurry up. I just pretended not to be with him!!
